Please review and rate these Tweets before 2/14 class

We have selected 100 tweets from our one page, “The ‘NOIS”, besides tweets from other outlets. Please feel free to suggest three more tweets per group, as we may need to replace some tweets after rating them.

You can access the excel sheet through the following link https://drive.google.com/open?id=1U5fuExuIrspJNYumYZzDdVWeYb3aSt_E44GjSPacgKo

We would like for each one of you to rate those tweets according to the following instructions.

Based on the 10 qualities that we have agreed on in our last class,we will be using a scale from 1 to 5, with five being “strong” to rate the presence of each quality per Tweet,

Grades (5-4) should be used only once in every tweet, and grades (1-3) should not be used for more than three qualities.

If you want to give a high grade to any of the qualities mentioned in the rating sheet, ask your self the following questions, and which one of those qualities had the most influence on you?

Immediacy

– Are there any time indicators in the tweet (now, today…)

– Would this tweet be still useful if not published in the right time?

Unexpected, original

– Does it have the ”wow effect’? Did it make stop and wonder how is this possible?

Engaging with questions and commands
– Asks about your opinion?
-Invites to click on a link?

Conversational
– addresses you in a simple style?

Humorous
– Did it make laugh without containing any offensive messages or stereotypes?

Personal utility or proximity
– Is it related to the U of I? to a specific specialty (engineering, law, media…)
– Could it have any direct impact on your day? Does it inform you about something you need to know (weather changes, graduation information…)?

Talk Factor
– Is it trending on social media?
– Does it add a perspective to the topic?

Human face
– Does it evoke emotions?
– Does it tell a story?

Active visuals
– Does it contain significant pictures, Gifs or videos?

Simplify complex issues
– Does it present information about science, economy, health or any other serious topic in a simple way?

Please let Blaize, Khaoula, Colleen, or Henry if you have any questions.

Activities 4/05

  • Asked Impulse Staff to like The ‘Nois page and engage with social media
  • Having Impulse PR director engage with The ‘Nois on our official social media pages

4- has a moving visual, unique take on a major news event, sharability, easy to read and understand, engaging hashtag, original content

3- has visiual (static), relatable/local, can be easily read or understood, click-bait like, engaging hashtag

2-Questions, newsy headline, no hashtag/irrelevant hashtag, no visual

1- Click-bait, no visual, no hashtag

0 – Boring sentence, no hashtag, no visual, little to no effort

Report 3/8 and 3/1

  • Reached out to Lynn Holley and had her send out an email announcing The ‘Nois to the College of Media with a call to action to follow and like our social media pages.

Holley

  • Working on the corner logos for the unique images we are producing. All are completed design-wise, as are instructions how to post, but I am having trouble transferring the images from Illustrator to Photoshop while retaining the image quality (see below). So I am holding off posting the images and instructions until I can figure out how to keep the quality when transferring the photos between programs. Unless it can all be done in Illustrator.

Connect Nois    Discuss Nois

  • Created The ‘Nois megaphone logo for our social media profiles and created the base that was used for our The ‘Noise flyers that are being handed out and posted around campus.

  • Tweets for “Connect” have been a struggle. Our group has been working to find a voice but have found there is overlap from other groups (Now, Lovie Smith; Identity, MOS opportunities; etc.). The schedule has also led some some issues and the lack of flexibility was problematic. We discussed some possible solutions in class today for these issues and should hopefully turn the tweets around in the next week.

Possible Logo/Profile Picture Designs

Here are a few logo designs (including the one from the branding report) that I’ve been working on since last class. Not sure if we ever decided on a color scheme, so I just went with UofI colors but those can be easily changed. All of these are examples of what the design would look like as a profile picture for our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Since we are not building an original site, it seemed best to design something that would fit into the already established social media parameters.

Feel free to comment your thoughts…I can make adjustments to any or make a totally new one based off of recommendations!

Templates- Presentation

Based off of the preliminary work and the audiences we are trying to engage with, we have decided to pursue established platforms that we know are popular and routinely utilized. Therefore, the Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms will be our main focus for this project.

Each posting should include a visual element, which could include a graphic, static photograph, or GIF. The more eye-catching the better; we need to try to be different than other campus publications and dynamic visuals accompanying our material are a good way to do this. Posts which contain multimedia elements, like video, audio, and graphics will be given the highest priority for posting.

Every headline will need to reflect what we talked about in class. They should be conversational, memorable, and engaging. Unless the particular piece of content calls for it, we will try to avoid “newsy” headlines and opt for those that are more of a Buzzfeed-like style.

There will be a set of questions we should be asking ourselves every time we are considering to post content.

  • Why does this matter?
  • Does our audience care?
  • Why do they care?
  • Do we have a relatable spin?
  • Would you read it if you saw it?

If you do not have concrete answers to all of these questions, reconsider your post. Maybe the way it is written, the angle, or the content overall. If it is not engaging or interesting to our audience, there is no reason to post it.

We would like to establish recurring hashtags for all of our posts, hopefully in conjunction with the branding team, which can give all of our posts a consistent and easily searchable connection.

Our team will also create a set of “Best Practices” once our goal as a class becomes clearer. We will utilize products like Hootsuite to make sure our postings are scheduled and sent out to have maximum impact on our audience.
